3 Months!

Nick weighs more than ten pounds now, and he keeps on growing! He spends more time awake and alert, looking around and interacting with his environment. This month he discovered his feet for the first time. Now, when you rub the bottom of his feet or pinch his toes, he will purposefully kick his legs and curl his toes in response.

Milestone moment: Nick has learned how to roll over from his tummy on to his back independently. He doesn’t do this consistently, but he has done it about half a dozen times since the first. None of the grandparents have seen this yet (over video)… but Nick has rolled over for Unka Andrew!

In this month, Nick has also started to spit up, much to Mom’s chagrin. This means that he has started going through two or three outfits a day. Between the spitup and the drool, this amounts to a lot more laundry.

Finally, we are so happy for our good friends out here/our California family, who just had a sweet baby girl! Little baby k will be Nick’s first little buddy, and we can’t wait for play dates.

Two Months!

Baby Nick is two months old! In his second month, he is starting to establish a stable day-to-day routine, which includes sleeping for three hours at a time throughout the night (whew!). During the hours that he is awake during the day, he is quite alert and observant. He has even started to smile and laugh :D

Nick’s motor skills are starting to develop as well. When he is hungry, he lets us know by sucking on the back of his hand, which he puts in his mouth all by himself. When he is upset, he swings his arms around with his little hands balled up in fists. He has punched mom in the face more than a few times. His neck is getting very strong as well. During tummy time, he loves to pull up his head to look around, and he pushes up on his arms to get even higher.

One Month (New pictures added)

At one month old, Nicholas is doing all the usual baby things like a champ – sleeping, eating, crying, pooping, and generally being adorable. After four weeks, he now is starting to be awake and alert for more time during the day and is starting to interact with his environment. He focuses on light coming from windows, at the top of our heads (and sometimes at our eyes), and is beginning to learn that he has hands. Nicholas can sometimes pull his pacifier out of his mouth with his hand, and sometimes sticks his hand in his mouth when he can’t find the pacifier on his own.

In his first month, baby Nicholas has traveled to the pediatrician’s office, and has been shopping several times with mom and dad. He has attended a party at our friend Kyle’s house and was very sweet and sleepy the whole time. We have also received a good number of visitors at the house, including most of the grandparents.

Dad is now a pro at changing diapers and mom is getting very creative at doing daily tasks with one hand (including typing). During the day, Nicholas loves to be carried in the sling worn by mom. When he is cranky, he enjoys being held while mom or dad bounces on an exercise ball. He spends most of his time sleeping, though he is still quite nocturnal.
